Kadiri Ikhana leads coaches short listed by Kano Pillars

Veteran coach Kadiri Ikhana is leading two other coaches short listed for the Kano Pillars top post with the club chairman promising a new coach will be named this week.

Ikhana led Pillars to their first league crown in 2008, incidentally working under Tukur Babangida, who has since returned as the club’s chairman.

Two seasons ago, Ikhana led Enyimba to win a record seventh league title but his contract was not renewed.

Last season, he was out of a job.

On Tuesday morning,  Babangida promised that a new coach will be announced not later than this week when he addressed the team.

Mohammed Babaganaru, who led Pillars to back-to-back league championship wins in 2014, quit his post this past season after the darling club of Kano finished a disappointing seventh.

Babaganaru has since been contracted by another NPFL side Wikki Tourists.

Pillars resumed full training for the new season this week, but several of the top stars including Prince Aggreh and Amos Gyang have yet to turn up for training.

Aggreh has been linked with Rivers United, while Gyang was on loan from Giwa FC.
